what do you mean by stored files?

Do you mean why upload some, let's say a game and password protect the files?

Mostly people do that to receive credits for uploading. IF some1 views your post without passes, and he posts it somewhere else, it's easy to take credit for.

But If I pass protect my 20 gig upload with 'eXtreme', then let's say: GhostRider posts it claiming he upped it...

...well, people will wonder why he used 'eXtreme' as password. Hehe :banana:

Thanks for the info I guess I'm just not into credits and glory. To my way of thinking the file was uploaded to help other members, something, a concept for which "glory and credits" seems to be in direct contradiction. Just my opinion so please, no hate mail.LOL.

Then there's the whole "pirate" factor. I would just as soon not be associated with an illegal file that I uploaded. Seems to me in the long run if someone wants to "take the credt" for something I uploaded then more power to him since I don't really want or need credits or glory. When I upload something it's just to help others who may want the file and can't find it.

If I have anything anyone needs ask me and I'll not only upload it for you, you can take the credit for it.LOL. Later

BTW, I have about 3 terrabytes stored that date back probably from 2000 to the present. I have versions of programs that the author has probably thrown away. LOL. My music alone is around 250GB, my movies (just the VOB) fill a 350GB harddrive.

Nice stats m8 whoow...

Personally, I don't like pll posting my uploads as their own. I do not mind pll posting them all over the net, don't get me wrong. It's just that I have monthly limits to my bandwith and if some1 posts a 2gig upload I made, on a forum where that person isn't really accepted by the community, pll will make an extra efford to report his so called upload to RS and have it removed.

This happend to my Postal 2 - STP upload. Now I've hit my limits and I have to wait a month to re-up while others are asking now.. why is it gone.. could you re-up plz...


If I had no limits.... my upload would be 24/7 and I wouldn't care less about what happened to the files. But since that isn't the case, I do care what happens to them, so...


...just my view of the situation

they also password portect to advertse websites, like ub3rhack3r5 is usually what i password protect my files.

I understand the BW situation. I am on satellite and I also have a BW restriction of 17GB Down and 5GB up in a "rolling" 30 day period so I too have to manage what I use. I usually just up to RS.com since I have an account there.

Tried setting up a server once but my upload speed is too slow for it to be of any use to anyone. I do have some direct transfer programs somewhere(LOL) I could use one of them and keep my machine on 24/7 to upload movies or big games. Oh well, we do what we can in life and that's all that we can. CUL.
